John (Taylor) Smith, age 22, was listed as a farmhand for Glen Dubery in Randolph County, AL in 1860. He is of the right age to have been John Taylor Smith, who turned 25 right before he was killed in May 1863 at Chancellorsville, VA. He was a Major with the 13th Alabama Infantry Reg't, CSA.
I need a lookup in the 1850 Randolph County AL census for John. He would have been about 12. In 1860 he was in the Louina P.O. area. Older Smiths in that same area were Williamson Smith, age 48, Clerk, born GA and a Robert W. Smith, age 50 born NC. He may be in the household of one of these men.
If anyone is researching Randolph County, AL Smith's, particularly the John Taylor Smith family, I would like to hear from you. I have seen a photo of this man that is in the possession of the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, VA and he and my father could pass for TWINS!!
Thanks,
Will Smith
