Subject: Great Registries

Can anyone tell me where I can find information on researching the Great
(Voting) Registries? It seems to me that the subject came up on the list
more than a year ago, but I didn't know what they were referring to at
the time and didn't print it out.
Would especially like to know if they were statewide or just certain
counties? Also what was the time span? What sort of information is
contained and how is it indexed? Is there anyplace besides the L.A.
Central Library that has the films locally. I have asked about them
several times, but they always tell me there is one very knowledgeable
person who can explain them, but he is at lunch or it is his day off.
I was rather surprised that at the Family History Center only one person
had heard of them and he had never researched them. I think we have more
3rd generation and more native Californians on this list.
