Obituary Notices:
MAYWEATHER, Madison - An hour of meditation will be held today at 7 p.m. in
the Chapel of Rucker's Mortuary for Madison Mayweather, 60, 1260 East Ninth
Street, who died Oct. 1. Service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the St.
John Missionary Baptist church, with the Rev. Tyree Toliver officiating.
Interment will be in the Union Cemetery. The deceased was a native of Rosebud,
Texas. He had lived in Bakersfield 27 years and in Californian 31 years. He was
an employee of the Griffin Construction Company for 15 years. Survivors
include his widow, Celie of Peoria, Ariz.; three sons, Herbert and Calvin of
Bakersfield, Willie B. of Peoria; six daughters, Mrs. Ceola Smith, Hazel
Mayweather, Mrs. Mable Morrison of Bakersfield, Mrs. Pearline Sampson of Salem, Ore.,
Mrs. Lola M. Washington and Mrs. Mae Francis Mannings of Peoria; three
brothers, Hubert of Shafter, Mathew of Bakersfield and Huldson of Pasadena; five
sisters, Mrs. Adice Robinson, Mrs. Sadie Autry, Mrs. Lucille Tate of Okmulgee,
Okla., Mrs. Fannie Ware of San Diego and Mrs. Louise Wilson of Pasadena; 28
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Albert Staton,
Alfred Cole, Will Howlett, David Carter, Mack Perkins and Roya Mershon.
Honorary bearers will be Manuel Thomas, Bill Tennor, Joe Glass
