Gary,
Thanks for the info. I drive by this cemetery every day, and will have to look into it. Frankly, I can't imagine this actually happening.

Savannah Cemetery (formerly known as El Monte Cemetery) is under the eye of
the developers. It is a 4-acre cemetery with over 3,000 burials since 1847.
The oldest
person buried there was born in 1796. Veterans of the Civil War and War of
1812
are there.
Those responsible for the cemetery have enough money to keep it going
for another two years but after that, what?
There are many Asians in the area now who believe in "spirits" and that
they are bad for business. They would like to see the cemetery gone.
If the spirits are bad for business now imagine how they will feel when
someone starts digging them up.
The cemetery is now in the city limits of Rosemead, CA, not El Monte.
I have taken many photos there for folks all over the country. The idea
of building yet more businesses over that plot of land is sickening. It
would be a public service to let the City of Rosemead let you know
how you fell about it but there seems to be no email address for the
City Council, mayor or anything but the Chamber of Commerce.
City Hall's address is on Google but it's USPS, not email. Those
who would like to see that historical site preserved might write to
the city and let them know how you feel about it.
