Sources of Records of Revolutionary War Soldiers
by Bill Principe

Bill Principe is a Certified Genealogist who has been an amateur genealogist
all his life and a professional genealogist for the past 5 years. He
specializies in Colonial American lineages and California Gold Rush
families. Bill has a BA degree from the University of California Berkeley
and a Master's degree from UCLA. Besides SCGS, he is a member of the Sons of
the Revolution, the Society of the Cincinnati, the Society of Colonial Wars,
the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, and the Society of California
Pioneers.

Bill will be talking about the sources of records of Revolutionary War
soldiers, including:

* White's "Index of Revolutionary War Service Records"
* and "Index of Revolutionary War Pension Records"
* Heitman's list of Revolutionary War Officers.
* Lists of soldiers in local histories
* DAR and other lineage societies
* Unit histories, orderly books, and muster rolls
* Rev. War pension files on the Internet

He will also be teaching about applying for membership in DAR, SR, SAR,
Society of the Cincinnati, Founders and Patriots, and other lineage or
hereditary societies. We will discuss the types of proof that these
organizations require.

Saturday, September 23
DNA Interest Group
10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The next meeting of the DNA Interest Group will take place on Saturday,
September 23, from 10:00-2:00. Guest speaker will be Andrew Yeiser,
co-author of DNA & Genealogy, who will take the audience through a
step-by-step construction of a cladogram and show various styles that can
help each surname group communicate the structure of the group to their
members. His presentation will be followed by questions and answers about
DNA.
