That was a little before my time! (SOG-wise, not age-wise) However, I will
enquire next time I go to a relevant Committee meeting.

The proxy arrangements for overseas members are still in effect, so there
is no need for Jeanne to ask at the next relevant Committee meeting.
To quote the current standing order (taken from my hard disc copy)
Overseas Members unable to visit the Society's premises in person may
nominate individual searchers to do work for them, who shall be permitted
to use all the Society's facilities other than borrowing books. These
Nominees shall be subject to the following conditions:-
1 The Nominee must NOT be resident in Great Britain:
2. The Overseas Member must write directly to the Society giving the name
and particulars of his Nominee;
3 No Overseas Member can have more than one Nominee at any one time;
4 The Nominee must, when visiting the Society's premises, provide means of
identification;
5 The Nominee must comply with all the rules and regulations of the
Society.
=======
Whilst the Director and I are going to rewrite the Standing Orders shortly,
I do not currently expect that we will be changing these arrangements
although they may well be repositioned from Standing Orders into another
document.
