Subject: [SOG-UK-L] Research, Premises, etc (re-post! did it reach the list first time?)

Hello All,

The proposed eventual move to new premises is once in a generation
opportunity to reconsider the level of services for "Distant" (Jim Robertson
example) and "Near" and/or "Visiting" members.

There is the issue of keeping the charitable status that might be put at
risk if the Society provides any services on other than a pure cost recovery
basis. However on this basis it is to be hoped that considerably expanded
computer
facilities will be planned for the new premises. SoG Members may be
encouraged to donate old PC's which they have outgrown as long as they can
perform useful functions for visitors. The staff who maintain the much
expanded "Computer Room" might well have time to handle research enquiries?
