Roy - perhaps you really are an old cynic <g>

Like you, I enjoy my visits to the FHC, the library and the County
Record office, but I also have to earn a living at an occupation which
takes up a lot of time, not to mention mowing the lawn, walking the
dogs, visiting ageing parents, having the odd conversation with my wife,
etc., etc., etc. - so anything which allows me to do more research in
the limited time I have available is an advantage as far as I am
concerned! It isn't a slight madness - surely it's called progress.

Also like you and many thousands of other researchers, I have downloaded
many entries on to disk and these are added to regularly as my research
widens. But quite often I need information on an ad hoc basis - if I
come upon a marriage I didn't know about it's really useful to be able
to check then and there if a christening has been recorded. I know the
data will need to be verified with a reliable source but at least I know
where to look.

As far as access is concerned, I haven't experienced any difficulty -
perhaps I've been lucky. And far from running up massive phone bills, my
ISP provider connects through a local number (like most others I think)
so it doesn't matter if the site I am visiting is in the USA or Outer
Mongolia - the cost is the same, about a penny a minute off peak.

Come on Roy - give progress a chance.
