Subject: [SOG-UK-L] Long-running lawsuits

Whilst deciphering some 17th-century Worcestershire wills recently I came
across the following chain of events:

1688: Thomas TOLLEY leaves 20 acres of land to John WHITLEY, a second cousin
1693: John WHITLEY dies intestate, with his widow named administratrix
1705: Thomas's widow Ann dies; her will makes it quite clear there was
ongoing litigation regarding the land, and that the amount her legatees
would receive depended on the outcome of the case.

I was unable to find any reference to the lawsuit at either Worcester RO,
and one of the assistants suggested it might even have ended up in Chancery
(shades of Jarndyce v. Jarndyce!), in which case there might be records at
the PRO.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?
