I cannot help with your specific problem of getting an external Iomega drive
to talk to your computer, but may I offer a suggestion which you might like
to consider before you get the faulty drive sorted.

I had considerable trouble with an Iomega tape drive. It would insist on
despooling the tapes, which at the price thay are was not good news.
Servicing did not help. At the time I was also running rather short of space
on my hard disk so I solved both problems by buying another (larger) hard
disk and using the old disk mainly for backing up files using the back-up
facility which comes with Windows. So long as all important data on one disk
is backed up on the other disk it should be proof against a mechanical
breakdown of either disk.
