Several members' messages show that the confidence to volunteer is an
important issue. Despite Frank's forceful language, I still think that
those in charge need to be more proactive in encouraging contributions,
identifying new volunteers, and channelling their efforts in the right
directions. I believe this applies to other Society activities as well as
to the magazine.
I had suggested social events as one way to make new contacts. Frank Hardy

This may be causing a "chicken and egg" situation, in which only
established volunteers attend social events, while potential new blood
lacks the confidence to come forward without encouragement.
Frank suggested that I organise a Christmas party. Any such attempt by an
ordinary member without full support and commitment from the executive
committee would surely fall flat on its face, and, in fact, Frank has
already mentioned several obstacles.
Best wishes,
