Several IT professionals have sent messages drawing attention to the need
for the Society to have a central IT co-ordinating body. To my knowledge
no-one has voiced a contrary view. As I understand, this role was until its
demise carried out by the Computers Committee.

I see there is an executive committee meeting tonight. Now is the time for
them to show their courage - in the true spirit of family history - by
admitting to a mistake in disbanding the Computers Committee. Everyone
makes mistakes. The Computers Committee should be put back in exactly the
same state and with the same composition as it was prior to the decision to
disband it. Only in this way can we hope that Barney and his displaced
colleagues - in the true spirit of family history - will forget the upsets
of the
last few weeks and will accept the challenge of continuing their important
work for the Society.

This is the best hope, expressed by someone who has no axe to grind in this
matter, but only wishes success for our Society.

Regards,

John Townsend (no. 9638)
