You must be thinking of 'Aka' but this stands for 'also known as...' and
therefore probably was not being used as an alternative to 'ditto' or 'Do'.

Aker comes to mind - a variant of Acre.

Suggest you go through the register for other instances of the name, or of
similar-looking characters in other surnames there, to make a visual
handwriting comparison.
