Subject: [SoG] "Institution" in 1901 census

Many thanks to Hugh and Phil for their further comments.
My quest for my gt.uncle in Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum finally met with
success. A lady at the Census Helpdesk agreed that it was extremely
difficult to find anybody in the online 1901 census who was listed in the
enumerator's book only by initials, as were inmates in asylums. She very
kindly gave me a reference to use in "Direct Search" at which she hoped I
would find my kinsman. I tried this, and did indeed find my "W.J.S.", with
the correct age, marital status, occupation and place of birth, and listed
as a "Blind Lunatic".
I'm very grateful for the help, but I'm unsure whether anything will be
done after the "testing phase" of the census to facilitate searches for
such people. Possibly not, if I'm the only person who has enquired about
them.
