I fall into this camp too. I live three hours away from London and only
visit about once a year. At that frequency, paying on the door for a
day ticket would be cheaper. But that's not just what the membership is
for. Its to support the work of the society and to ensure that, when one
does get a chance to visit the library, there are enough subs coming
into the society to fund the library and the many sources of data
contained within it. Taking this into account I still think the
membership fee is good value for money, even taking into account the
recent rises.

My sentiments exactly, though for South Wales, Cardiff and Birmingham,
read Newcastle! :-)
