Well, I have had time to calm down and I still find this announcement
rather astonishing. Absolutely no hint that something was going amiss
other than a private message to me a week or so ago that cash was tight, again!
One is led to wonder what the next pruning will remove, or maybe that
will come after the next membership fee increase. I am sorry to sound
cynical, but we have been round this bush before in the shape of staff reductions.
I sometimes wonder when the message will arrive that tells us all that
the SOG is going into liquidation. 'Sorry, we are completely broke, but
we had to keep the truth under wraps - the assets will be sold off to
pay our debts'. There is the ring of awful familiarity about this
situation and time that the Committee made a statement to bring these
matters into the open.
