A good lecturer does not have a word-for-word text of his/her talk. I was
taught to use notes, or the slides, as an aide-memoire. Also the spoken and
the written text are quite different things so to produce both would almost
double the preparation time. Many speakers, myself included, have produced
books on their topics and would be unwilling to generate written text for
dissemination freely on the web thereby undermining book sales.

..and then there are the problems of copyright abuse that seem to plague
material released through the web.
