Many thanks for your helpful and speedy reply.

I did uninstall CFTW first, but when I reinstalled it still wouldn't work -
I have tried numerous times.

I have e-mailed Cumberland Family Software (from their website) and
hopefully they will respond quickly (though when I had a problem a few years ago it
took over three months just to get an acknowledgement, and no solution was
ever suggested!) If nothing transpires this time, I may do as you suggest and
download the 45 day trial version, and hope this will read my files, but I am
not keen on purchasing the upgrade, so will then have to decide which of my
various bits of software to use in the future.
