If you know any of the teams he played for you could write to the Club
Statistician, c/o the football club he played for.

Alternatively, try the Association of Football Statisticians. Tjheir website
is http://www.11v11.co.uk/ but they don't have an online database.

He you tried searching online using your ancestor's name and the word
football as search criteria?

Perhaps you could tell us the name of the player and someone on the list may
have heard of him. If you don't want to put his name on the list perhaps
you could send it to me privately and I'll ask my husband about him. He's
very into football especially the stats side of it and he has a lot of books
which he could look in for info.
