Subject: [SOMGEN] Civil War Military Exemption

Hello listmates,

I am looking for suggestions as to where I might find documentation of a
military exemption from the Civil War. According to the Wilhelm Charge, my
great great grandfather, Simon Nicholson, was drafted during the Civil War
but did not serve because the Wilhem's paid fourteen hundred dollars for his
military exemption. The book does not state what year this occurred or what
Company or Unit he was drafted into. I have successfully requested and
received military records for other members of my Nicholson family from the
National Archives. I do know Simon's birth and death dates but don't know if
the National Archives can find what I want with only that information. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
