Dear List,
I'm looking for information on Matilda Howe born in 1809 in Somerset Co.
Pa. who married Phillip Miller (born in 1804 in Stark Co., Ohio, to John and
Elizabeth Miller).
Phillip and Matilda Howe Miller's children are listed in an old Miller
family Bible as being: G.D. (son), Rachael, Hiriam H.(b.12/1/1831 in Ohio
and d. 2/17/1857), Samuel W., P.J. (son), E.R. (dtr.), R.M.D.(son), Arretta
Jane, C.J., Cyrus A., Roxy A., Abel K., and N.G.G. (son).
I believe this Hiriam H. Miller is my ggreat-grandfather Hiram Miller who
married Mariah Metzger and had the following known children: Sarah E.
(1850-after 1938), Alonzo H. (1852-1929/m. 1. Jane Ann Hutson and 2. Sarah
Columbia Miller), Clarissa (1854-1937/m. Rockwell), Leander John, and Albert
G. Miller.
Sarah E. and Albert G. Miller were found living with their uncle Wm. J.
Olwine upon their uncle's death in 1938. I'm guessing that Wm. Olwine was
the brother-in-law of Mariah Metzger Miller. Wm. "Bill" Olwine was the son
of John and Hannah Wurtz Olwine of Somerset Co. and he owned "the Old Chalk
Hill House" which was famous for chicken dinners.
If anyone could shine some light on this family of Millers, Howes, and
Olwines/Alwines in the Somerset or surrounding area of Pa. please email me
at Thanks Terrie
