--------------------

July 18, 2002

Teresa Marie Dregier, a nurse for 47 years who spent most of her career at Johns Hopkins Hospital, died Sunday of lung cancer at St. Joseph Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. Dregier, who lived in the same Hamilton home with her family for 50 years, was born Teresa M. Albarano in Altoona, Pa. One of 12 children, she grew up in nearby Lilly, Pa., a coal-mining town, where her parents and sisters operated a corner grocery store.

She became a registered nurse during World War II and served in the Pacific, earning the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the Meritorious Service Plaque and achieving the rank of first lieutenant.

In 1946, she married Leo A. Dregier and moved to Baltimore, where she continued her career as a nurse, usually working the night shift so she could care for her children during the day.

She was an avid Orioles fan who enjoyed crocheting, bowling, Wheel of Fortune, pinochle and cooking Italian food.

Mrs. Dregier was a member of St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church in Hamilton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. today at St. Dominic's. Graveside services will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Dundalk.

Mrs. Dregier is survived by her husband; four sisters, Mary Albarano and Phyllis Martynuska, both of Lilly, Lucinda Frasca of Windber, Pa., and Cecilia Leahey of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; two sons, Lee A. Dregier II of Parkville and Joseph E. Dregier of Abingdon; two daughters, C. Lynn Houck of Bridgeton, N.J., and Rosemerry D. Taylor of Forest Hill; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
