Subject: [SOMGEN] ALL ROOTSWEB LISTS/DIGEST AND ARChIVES

Hi Seekers - to answer a recent query:

To find all the lists/digests one can subscribe to, go to:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/ and/or

http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_email.html

[note: think the 'john f' website has changed some but the website
above will get you there in about 5 seconds, all the same.]

They are listed by surname - geographical location - special interest -
"foreign" countries, etc.

Personally, I prefer the digest format: one msg. with a bunch
(usually) of individual messages included...less 'clogging' of incoming
msgs. into one's computer when one subscribes to many.

You will see the 'paperclip' denoting the attachment which open up the
individual messages - the attachments on the rootweb list/digest have
been 'purged' for any viruses so not to worry about those in this
instance. And - you can scan down the messages that are included in the
Digest - those that don't interest you, ignore: those that do, click
on.

Also:

RootsWeb archives all of the messages from all of the email lists. Go
to:

http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl

Type in "whatever"-Roots for the name of the list. You will receive a
page that will search the "whatever" mailing list records starting in
1996 or whenever the "whatever" List began.

You can search all Rootsweb lists doing this - just type in the
different title.

Have great days and peaceful nights!

Good hunting - good luck! Shirley:
