Hi Bob,
If you are using Outlook Express 6 it will automatically disable your
ability to view attachments as a security precaution. This is a great
feature for those users who don't usually receive attachments and may not
have a virus protection program on their computer. However, since Outlook
Express (WIN version) packages up all the digest messages as attachments -
it makes it impossible to read your RootsWeb list mail.
To disable this feature, go to tools and options. Uncheck the box that says
"Disable all attachments" or something to that wording. This will allow you
to look at all the attachments sent to your mail box.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO HAVE A VIRUS PROGRAM INSTALLED AND TURNED ON FOR MAIL
ATTACHMENT CHECKING! This will make sure that all the viruses are stripped
from your mails.
Finally, a note about RootsWeb list mail. Since no attachments can be sent
to RootsWeb's list server -- there is no way for our email list to send on
virus infected emails. Occassionally, you may receive an email with a virus
attachment that "looks" like it came from our list. This is not the case.
The virus mail came from someone who subscribes to our list and has the
somgen-l email address in their address book.
Good luck!
