I'd love to have a copy. You do such thorough work it is a pleasure to deal with it.

SOMERSET COUNTY VITAL RECORDS

Regular readers of this list may recall that in 2003, I made a Subject Index,
on CD-ROM, of the "Laurel Messenger" Journal of the Historical & Genealogical
Society of Somerset Co. Copies of it were donated to five libraries in
Somerset & Fayette Counties, and I have made a few copies for anyone requesting it.

Since then, I have been working on a new index, "Somerset County Pennsylvania
Families: Early Vital Records." I have just completed extracting all the
BIRTH, MARRIAGE, and DEATH data from the "Laurel Messenger" articles from all
issues, 1960 through 2003. Data from four Somerset Co. cemeteries are included.
now, and many more will be added in the future.

About the first of May, as soon as I rewrite the introductions to the three
databases, I will again donate copies on CD to the same Somerset & Fayette Co.
Libraries, and will make copies for anyone requesting one. All the Databases
will be on a single CD, and there are multiple different sorts of each of them.

This current First Edition consists of 20,790 records [496 pages] in the
Births, 7950 records [177 pages] in the Marriage, and 15,300 records [368 pages]
in the Deaths databases. Dates in the databases range from the 1600s though
2000, but most are in the 1700s through 1920s. Due to repetition of names from
different sources, there are many duplicate names in each database. Also because
there are so many identical, or similar names, It is imperative that the
researcher examine the original sources to be sure they have truly found the
person of interest to them. The Index references the original article or cemetery
from which the data was extracted. One of the advantages of my Databases is
that they will combine in one list, data from multiple original sources, and will
reference the original sources.

I'm now engaged in extracting data from the 535 known cemeteries of Somerset
Co. I expect that the size of the Deaths Database will double in size before
this is completed sometime next year. There are also some other church
birth/baptism and marriage records that may be added.

Since some of the deaths records came from the Somerset County Townships
website, I have promised to donate a copy of the Deaths Index to the site when I
complete it. However, since the Index is so large, I'm not sure how or when
that will be accomplished..

One of my goals in doing these indexes was to try to find my Somerset
"Miller"family. I did accomplish this and found my g.g.g. grandfather, William L.
Miller, buried deep in one of the 138 Miller references in the "Family" & "Notes &
Queries" categories in My "Laurel Messenger" Subject Index.

If anyone wishes a copy of the Indexes in their present form, and would later
like to have a copy of any later version, I will promise to make copies for
any "repeat" customers of the Vital Records or Laurel Messenger Databases, for
one-half the usual copy fee.
