Sincere delays in getting this out, but am back at
work now, and so time is tight.
Transcribed from CO48/42 at the National Archives in
Kew, London
No. 5 Lancaster Court, Strand
25th Nov 1819
Sir
On account of the extensive emigration to the Cape of
Good Hope, I beg to offer my Services as Engineer and
Land Surveyor, to the Settlers, or in any other
capacity that I can be useful.
I have lately been employed in the ? Islands at
Military, and Civil Engineers, but in consequence of
the Reduction ordered in my Corps, it has
unfortunately been my lot to be placed on half pay
By laying before his Lordship my wishes you will much
oblige Sir,
Your most Obedient,
And humble Servant,
H.G. BOLDERO
Royal Engineers
A second letter was written on the 9 Dec 1819. It is a
replica of the letter above. Unfortunately I still
cannot make out the name of the islands in either
letter.
