Hi Cindy,
I'm interested in two of your interests....my mother in law was Doris
PROCTOR....she was born in Uitenhage, Cape Province but conceived in Colne
in Lancashire where her family came from...her mother (whose Christian name
I unfortunately don't know...I'm waiting for copies of birth certificates
held by my ex-sister in law who now lives in Denver, Colorado) ....all I
know she was one of the NUTTERS from Colne (how I would have loved to have
been able to say my mother-in-law was a nutter!!) The family history says
that she was a descendent of Dame Alice NUTTER who was hanged at Lancaster
in about 1813 for witchcraft...(she was said to be one of the Pendal
Witches)....I can't find a link I must admit because as far as I could see
Dame Alice' son Christopher emigrated to America.....) My mother in law had
a brother Harry PROCTOR who had a wife Una and a son also called Harry.

I also note the GASKELL connection...Elizabeth GASKELL (born STEVENSON) was
my gg grandmother's cousin.....the STEVENSON family were from Berwick on
Tweed....If you are connected to that GASKELL might I suggest you get hold
of a copy of the book 'Elizabeth GASKELL - the early years' by John
CHAPPEL...I found it packed with information!!) I must admit to not having
known anything about Unitariatism until I read the book!
