Cuyler, Jacob Glen, Lt-General b. 20.8.1775 in Albany, New York, died
Uitenhage 14 4. 1854, s.o. Abraham Cuyler, Mayor of New York and Jane
Elizabeth Glen. Family of Dutch descent, but he was 4th generation to be
born in North America. Joined British Army 1799. Embarked at Falmouth,
Cornwall with 59th Foot; arrived Table Bay 4 .1.1806 with Baird's expedition
force and on 8.1.1806 took part in the Battle of Blaauberg.
Married Mary Elizabeth Hartmann Oct 1808 - children Abraham John, John
Francis Cradock, Jane Elizabeth and Maria Elizabeth. No mention of Cuyler
rifle!
