Eric and Tessa

To add to the confusion, according to the account about the BOOTH family
written by Florence BURRINGTON ('In Spekboom Country') which contains a
short GODLONTON Family Tree - Robert GODLONTON was the youngest of seven
children to James GODLONTON (d. London 1796/97) and Mary PERRY (d. London
1806/07). The children were:

1. James b. 01 Apr 1780
2. Samuel b. 19 Jun 1782, bur. 30 Jan 1803
3. Elizabeth b. 03 Sep 1784
4. James b. 18 Mar 1786 [presumably the first James had died]
5. Sarah b. 28 Jun 1788
6. Joseph b. 23 Aug 1792
7. Robert b. 24 Sep 1794

The third child Elizabeth GODLONTON supposedly married someone by the name
of WHITE and they had two children Robert WHITE and Thomas A. WHITE. So that
differs to what you have below. Seems there is some confusion here which
hopefully the correspondence at the library can resolve.

.Best wishes
Craig

Dear Tessa,
Some time ago - I can not find the email - you posted a question about
Robert Godlonton White [b.1853, probably in Grahamstown] He married Frances
Amelia Stokes on 11 Apr 1876 and returned to England in 1882-1883 with his
wife and two daughters.
I have now satisfied myself that he was a son of Robert White [b.1819 in
England; d.26 Oct 1894 in Brighton, England],
Robert was a nephew of Robert Godlonton and came to Grahamstown in 1838 to
join his uncle at the Grahamstown Gazette and became a partner in "Godlonton
& White" in 1845.His parents were William White and Sarah, who married in
1807 in Hackney.
Robert Godlonton White [plus wife and family] appear in the 1891 and 1901
Census as living in Bedford, England. There are surviving letters between
Robert W and Robert Godlonton W in the Rhodes Libaray, Oxford. Trevor
Spindler [via Genes Reunited] is planning to have a look at them.

The only sibling I have for Robert Godlonton is a James Godlonton [b. 18 Mar
1786] Did he have a sister who married a "White" and produced Robert
White???
Regards
Eric
