Hi All,
I received Becky's pic but that is not the one. For those of you intrested it seems (from comparing the two pictures) that if you are looking at the Piet Retief monument there is a large white block of flats behind it. My monument would be to the left of this a couple of hundred metres and further down (backwards) than the Piet Retief one.
Here is the picture: http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm150/karelm_photo/Lloydmon.jpg
If anyone has a picture of the stolen copperplate or knows the wording please let me know!
Kind regards,
Karel Marais

Hi Karel

The only monument that I can recall is the Piet Retief Monument.
This monument is situated on the Piet Retief Plein, close to Pick 'n Pay,
Summestrand.
I will send you a pic off-list so that you can verify if it is the same one
that you have.

Best wishes
Becky

Hi All,
I have just received a picture from a cousin regarding a moument in Port
Elizabeth that was erected I believe to commemorate William LLOYD who may
have been the father of "my" William James Henry Mortimor LLOYD.
The problem is that the copper plate with the insciption has gone missing
(read stolen). The monument is built out of "dressed" stone and has a
double base (steps) with a square pillar, seven stones high, on top.
Apparently this stands close to the Pick'n'Pay centrum in Summerstrand on an
open piece of land/park.
Now the question, does anyone know what the inscription was on the
copperplate that was most likely sold as scrap metal? Or is there somebody
at the PE municipality that I could contact via email that may know? And
anyone know why this was erected in the first place?
I could forward a picture if anyone is intrested.
Kind regards,
Karel Marais
