BIRTH at Sea-Point House on the 30th August 1837, the lady of the Hon. Mr.
Justice MENZIES of a son.

EDICT
The Next of Kin and Creditors of Christina Isabella ODENDAL, deceased wife
of Laurens DE JAGER of the Swellendam District, are required to take notice
that the said Christina Isabella ODENDAL, deceased wife of Laurens DE JAGER
, died intestate, and that a Meeting of the Next of Kin and Creditors of the
Deceased, and surviving Husband, and all others whom these presents may
concern, will be held before the Resident Magistrate at his Office,
Swellendam, on Thursday the 12th October next, at 10 o’clock in the forenoon
precisely; and all such persons as aforesaid are hereby required to attend
at the place and time aforesaid; then and there to see such Person or
Persons selected by such Magistrate, for approval by the Master of the
Supreme Court, as fit and proper to be by the said Master appointed Executor
or Executors Dative to the Estate of such deceased person as aforesaid, and
Tutor or Tutors Dative of the minor Heirs of the Deceased..

In St.Andrew’s Church Cape Town on Sunday the 3rd Sept 1837 by the Rev Dr.
Adamson:
A daughter of Mr. William MARTIN, baptised Helen.

William WHILEY Jun begs to announce to his Friends and the Public generally
that he has commenced Business in the Bread and Biscuit Baking Line at
No.21½ Barrack-street, Cape Town. Groceries of every description may be had
as above.

At Claremont near Wynberg on the 3rd inst, the lady of Harry NISBET Esq, of
the Bengal Civil Service, of a daughter.

EPIDEMIC AMONG CHILDREN
A very dangerous disease prevails at present among Children in Cape Town.
The first symptom generally is a peculiar sound in the breathing something
like the sound in croup. There is not much fever. The parts about the top of
the wind-pipe have a whitish appearance. When these symptoms appear Medical
aid ought instantly to be procured. An hour lost mat render all human aid
useless.

Saturday 9 September 1837

BIRTH on the 2nd September, Mrs. Alexander SAUNDERS, from the Mauritius, of
a son.
Cape Town, 9th September 1837

DIED on the 28th August 1837 after a protracted illness, Mrs. Magdalena
Elizabeth THOMPSON, wife of Dr. William THOMPSON, in the 43rd year of her
age, deeply lamented by her family and friends.

at the Public Buildings, Cape Town on Tuesday the 31st October next, at 10
o’clock in the forenoon precisely; and all such persons as aforesaid are
hereby required to attend at the place and time aforesaid; then and there to
see Letters of Administration granted to such Person or Persons as shall
