Hello Tammy
With regard to your query re George Beet a good place to try for info
would be the Kimberley Africana Library .
George Beet was one of the pioneers of Kimberley and was a very well
known citizen as was his son Arthur J. Beet I have an a signed copy of
'The Grand Old Days of the Diamond Fields', a book he wrote on the early
days of Kimberley in which he tells of the journey from Kingwilliamstown
to Dutoitspan in 1870 on a oxwagen which took 43 days. It goes to
describe life on the diggings and of the famous people he encountered
there. The book is dedicated to his late wife 'Margaret Louisa Beet nee
Hanley a descendant of the British Settlers of 1820 and one of the Early
Pioneers of the Diamond Fields.' It was published in 1930 by Maskew
Miller.
In 1902 Kimberley Directory he is listed as a Law Agent and he lived at
130 Dutoitspan Road
Son Arthur Beet was a co author of 'Kimberley Under Siege' This was
published in 1949 at the time of the 50th anniversary of the Siege.
