South African Genealogies volume 1 A-C (JA Heese and RTJ Lombard) has a long
list of BARNARD family members, many of which are connected to Knysna,
Uniondale etc. A quick glance through shows that the most recent dates are
around 1900, and on broad-based calculation I would guess that your parents
were born between 1920 and 1940 or perhaps later?

The family is listed as descendants of Johannes BARNARD who came from
Keulen, Germany as a soldier in 1708 became a civilian citizen in 1710 and
died in 1727.

Regards
Marielle
