Hi Tessa

I too have found mistakes on Death Notices, so I check as many
original documents as possible to confirm details. I am amazed at the
number of people have no idea what the names of grandparents were!
The DN for Albina was signed by by her daughter Lilian Albina HARVEY
(Executor) who resided with her mother.

With regard to Nathaniel (spellings vary but he spelt his name
Nathaniel), he was the Market Master and Town Clerk in Smithfield
before the Boer War and lost everything during the war (I have a copy
of his Claim for Compensation dated Nov 1904 where he states that he
and his family were in a Concentration Camp in Aliwal North and lost
all their possesions during the war etc) see further link below
(his initial is given as A but probably misinterpreted as th N in his
signature looks like an A). He had two sons at the time of the Boer
War, Herbert Charles HARVEY who joined Brabants Horse in 1900 and
Ernest John HARVEY who joined Kitchener's Scouts and at the time of
the claim (1904) were still alive - Herbert living in Johannesburg and
Ernest John still serving in Pietermaritzburg.

After the war the family moved to Rouxville - I have been unable to
find a Death Notice or Will for him but found a copy of his Burial in
the Rouxville OFS Anglican Church Register (where he died at the age
of 65 on 10 Nov 1908 of paralysis of the heart and was buried in
Rouxville on the 11 Nov 1908. ( Source: Anglican Church Archives, Wits

Best wishes

Shirley
