Good Morning,
I am trying to find out more of when these two gr.grandfathers would have arrived in SA.
All I know of Alfred DAY is that he worked for the Railways in Durban (one of his children, Molly Myra, was born at Umgeni in 1886) and that he came from Swindon (there are 3 of those!)
I wondered if it is possible to find him on a passenger list?
Sad to say, that somehow the family never made too much note of the maternal side (i.e. Molly Myra DAY) of the family.
I know even less of Alfred MORTIMER, except that he arrived in Kenya in 1908, had a wife Clara and a daughter Elizabeth b. 1893 (gr.grandmother). There was a bit of a scandal from gr.gran Elizabeth, so not much is known of this family either. It took son Ronald a lifetime to find his sister, Sylvia, who was taken with Elizabeth when she ran off - Sylvia was eventually found in Australia.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Dorothy
