Hi - I am Wendy Garner and below is what I have on my grandfather born
in South Africa.

Anthony Alexander Van Ryan FRAMES was born 22 Feb. 1901 in Kimberley,
South Africa to Minett Edward FRAMES and Annie Maria O'Reilly. He
traveled to the United States, from Bermuda, on the S.S. Fort Victoria,
arriving 17 May 1926 in New York City. He married Sarah Harrison on 05
June, 1929 in Montclair, NJ.

Anthony Alexander Van Ryan Frames did not legally emigrate to the U.S.
and was about to be deported in 1946 when they suspended that action
while he made application for naturalization. Almost all the information
I have on my grandfather comes from his application process which
resulted in, for me, about an 1/2 inch thick file of photocopies of
various types of documents.

I am now hoping, through this list and various other resources, to learn
about genealogical research in South Africa so I may take the next step
in discovering this side of my family. :-)
