Subject: Enquiry Regarding Murray Family

Greetings All List Readers
I have been researching the genealogy of my family, the Murrays, for some time.
Our progenitor was John Murray, a Scots merchant and whale-fishery owner who arrived at the Cape around 1797 and died at Cape Town in 1815. His only child, a son also named John, married Martha Gysbertha de Milander and was father of eight children. John #2 was also a merchant and whale-fishery owner and lived at Cape Town, but moved to Stellenbosch at about 1830. I do not know when he died, but he was still alive in 1854 when he was a witness to the baptism of one of his grandchildren.
I would be very glad to hear from anyone who has come across any record of the death of John Murray #2 or has any other information concerning this family. I would also like to make contact with a descendant of John #2's second son, Robert William Murray who had four sons of his own, named: Henry Heron, Samuel, Hermanus Johannes and Johannes Gysbertus. I have not been able to locate any members of this branch of the family.
Thank you
Percy Murray
