Subject: Advice Request

Greetings!

I found your listing on the internet as a person who could give advice on
South African research. I realize you don't do the research yourself.

My problem is that I don't know where to look for records...my ancestor
wasn't in South Africa long, but I would love to find some verifying
evidence of his stay there. I posted a query on the Bush board, but I
doubt anything will come of that.

Here's a summary of the facts I have: My great-grandpa Louis (Lazar)
Yosselsohn (josselsohn) sailed from Lithuania to SA via London ca 1902. He
undoubtedly arrived in Cape Town, but I believe he settled in Johannesburg.
He opened a store (family story is "hardware") and was very successful,
making enough money to buy 2 homes when he came to the U.S. (I give this
detail not to brag but in case it suggests research avenues, eg business
records, tax records etc.) Louis left ca 1904-06, sailing to England to
rejoin his family and to the US. (He sent money back to his wife in
Lithuania during his years in SA)

Any and all suggestions you may have will be greatfully appreciated!

Thank you very much,

Debra Katz
