Hello Lesli
According to Shaw's "Knights of England", which is generally
acknowleged to be complete for the last two centuries or so of the
period that it covers, there was only one Frost knighted before its
publication in 1906. This was the Hon. Sir John Frost, K.C.M.G.,
who was knighted in 1904. According to "The South African Who's
Who", (1908 edn.) he was the son of William Frost, a farmer from
Leicestershire. He was born in 1828 and came to South Africa at an
early age and became the M.L.A. for Queenstown and was Secretary for
Native Affairs in the second Rhodes administration.
I have a computer file which includes the family of John Lownes
Frost, so it is possible that it might be of some use to you.
with best wishes
William
