Thank you for your information on VAN DER MERWE/CLOETE/MYBURGH. My
husband has 14 vn der Merwe ancestors, so I want to know as much about
this family as possible.
1.VAN DER MERWE - Can you elaborate on the child WS van der Merwe
had with a VOC slave? What number would this child be in his family? I
notice in Familia 1979, Vol. XVI, p. 1-5, that the child was Maria who in
1696 married the stamfather Paulus Heynes. I don't think she is b3,
Maria, who married Barend Burger, xx Lambert Smit.
2.ELSJE CLOETE - You have her dying 28 May 1685. I notice that the
children of WS van der Merwe were baptised as follows:
b730.3.1684
b87.4.1686
b916.5.1688
b1325.6.1717
Could you give us your sources for her death?
3.MYBURGH - re. Familia 1969, No. 1, p. 1-5. I found that in fact I
did not have this article translated by my husband. I do not understand
Afrikaans. If it were in Ukrainian which was my first tonge, I might be
able to translate it....I will have him translate it. I guess I did not
think it had much new information in it...I was incorrect.
In the meantime I have also found in Familia 1972 No. 2, p. 55, a short
notice by Philip Myburgh (who could possibly also be the author of the
first article) in which he claimed that Albert Janz Myburgh, married 1753
to Sophia van Rooyen, was in fact the 8th child of Jan Lambertz Myburgh
by his second marriage to Sophia Sank. He also stated that the stamfather
should have been Lambert Lambertz Myburgh and his wife, Aeltje Alberts,
so that would change all the numbering in the deVilliers/Pama Books.
Could you comment on this?
