Shipping & Settlers
There are books of shipwrecks and newspaper cuttings of passenger arrivals.
Most of these are only books accessible at the Cape Town Archives but non
have been indexed. Within the time period of 1810 to 1920 their were a few
thousand ships that not only brought immigrants here but many of them were
shipwrecked - too many to mention.
My ancestors were shipwrecked here never to return to England again -
unfortunately their is not listing of shipwrecked passengers.
Unless you have a name of a ship and a year you might be lucky. Some of
these ships called at the Cape four to six times a year.
If anybody has started to index these list please let us all know.
regards
Heather
