I fully agree with Delia that a co-ordinated approach is needed and
through the Western Cape branch of the Genealogical Society of
South Africa (GSSA), will be working with the GSSA Sources
Preservation Project and Genealogy Forum 2000 to implement practical
steps to rescue the the Indices at the Cape Master's Office.
Leon Endemann of GISA (The Genealogical Institute of South Africa in
Stellenbosch) has raised the issue with Jack de Wet, South African
Director of the Genealogical Society of Utah and the LDS are also
interested in filming these indices.
For information, apparently the indices have been filmed up to 1950.
The indices at the Masters Office run from the end of 1950 up to this
year.
With regard to my call for volunters, could any one who wishes to
help contact Delia by email privately on . I will
be passing the names of those who have directly approached me.
I would also like to highlight Delia's second message that everyone
of us must get involved by collecting information on all sources and
passing that on to the GSSA Sources Preservation Project and
Genealogy Forum 2000.
Greetings
