Dear List,

I received the following email tonite from an anonymous sender.

"It would be appreciated if you would refrain from referring to the "Boer
War". It gives strong offence to South Africans who are descendants
of those who had to fight imperialist Britain and its allies a century
ago when they invaded our country to take away our independence
and murder our women and children. You could perhaps help to
promote the use of the name "British Imperialist War of Southern
Africa", which is what it really was."

To whoever wrote this to me I wish to say -

Never Never has it been or would it be, my intention to offend. I have been
blessed to be born in a country that in my lifetime has not suffered the
outrage, turmoil and hideousness of war. Therefore I can only imagine the
horror and feelings that run so deep.

I would rather this conversation was left at that and would have replied in
person if it were possible.
