Many years ago, just after WW2 an aunt tried to get information about her
grandfather in the FAMP and wrote to the Cape Archives. They sent her quite
a bit of information adding that he had never claimed his medal. He was
Edward Hardie Gould and later farmed at Kokstad area. In Major G Tylden's
book "The Armed Forces of South Africa"
there is some information, ie -
-original strength of 17 Officers and 500 men; raised 1855
-organised on the Silladar system , providing their own horse, clothing,
food arms and transport
-they were constantly on the move and called up for military duty
-reorganised under the Cape Mounted Riflemen (the imperial Regt) 1878
-the White Horse of Hanover became the Sergeants badge
Not much real stuff, but maybe there are some clues there. I dont have the
source pages for Tylden's book but perhaps he has given some clues about
reference numbers?
