Hi Kathy
Several firms in Joeys with GORDON in the title, but no Importers and
Distributors -- there's a watchmaker & jeweller; an estate agent, a large
building company, auto spares, panel beaters, insurance brokers & Gordon's
Dry Gin.
There's a GA & a GM DAWSON, but no GB.
No SWIFT in the Biographies.
Yes, I'm an editor & sometimes feel I'm just an extension of this PC!
"Barrage of good cheer"??!! Oh, well, I'm just a Curious Cat.
Regards
Maureen

Hi Maureen,
Could you please check the Johannesberg phone directory for
Gordon Importers and Distributors
and a
Gerard Barron Dawson
He is my second cousin. Except for the reference of an exparte
application listing him in 1948 listing him as manager of this company,
I have been unable to find any trace of him. I am ever hopeful. I have a
letter from 1936 that refers to him as being in the Johannesberg area so
I thought it might be worth a shot.
And...if you find time sitting heavy on your hands and want to look for
my great grandfather in the Biography book :-) ...he is
Reverend Thomas Walthew Swift, first Rector St. John's, Wynberg. 1879 to
1886.
I seem to remember you mentioning you were an editor..is that right? I
am (and have been for the last 20 years) a graphic designer, mainly
designing print materials and ad materials for magazines. I spend a lot
more time staring at this computer screen than I used to.
Keep well and keep up the barrage of good cheer - a lot of us need it.
Sincerely, Kathy Swift Thompson
