Hullo,
I'm June and live in the USA. I'm trying to find info on the South
African
side of my family.
This is what I know; My grandparents, Louis John and Magdalena Chaplin
were born in the 1800s, she in South Africa, he I'm not sure-UK or SA.
probably. They married toward the end of that century. He died
somewhere around 1908, she around 1941. He worked for the Bank of
Africa. She lived in Boulder cottage, Clifton on Sea, Capetown in 1918
and quite probably for many other
years.Between them they were of Dutch, French, English and Danish
ancestory. These inlcuded Catholics and Hugenots and probably other
religions.
Their children, in birth order:
Girlie (spelling?)
Louis Augustine died and buried during WWI in France in 1918 age 26 .He
was in the Natal heavy artillary
Frederick Herbert, my father born l894 in Cape Province, fought in both
wars, was a major, (headed the SA film
unit in WW III believe)
Potter
Vera.
I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions or information. I'm new to this.
Thankyou.
June
