HI Humphrey,
The connection between Johan Adam MADER and the de Villiers family is
tenuous and the relationship is by marriage (aangetroude familie).
Johan Gottlieb MADER entered the service of the D.E.I.C. as a surgeon in
1774 arriving at the Cape in 1782 where he stayed. He married Magdalena
Johanna Roep in Paarl 17.2.1788. They had 7 children.
The 6th child, Louisa Johanna bap. 17.2.1799 married Arend NELSON (my
4GFather). They had a son named Johan Adam Mader NELSON bap. 20.10.1822 in
the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cape Town. The witness (godfather) at
that baptism was none other than Louisa's younger brother, Johan Adam MADER.
The de Villiers connection is that Johan Adam Mader NELSON married Susanna
Fredrika de Villiers born 15.12.1828, d.o. Andreas Francois de Villiers and
Susanna Francina Wrensch.
So you see, as I said, the association is somewhat tenuous.
Regards,
Mervyn - researching Nelson
