Hello, all
I have a photograph of a gravestone from the South End cemetery in Port
Elizabeth that I believe is part of my FRENCH family -the names on it are
JOHN FRENCH - whose date of death appears to be 1901, and he appears to have
been 40.
EDWARD JOHN FRENCH - killed in action 10 August 1916
ELLEN MARIA - died 9 January 1928, age 63
JAMES FRENCH = her beloved husband - died 4 May 1936 - age 77 years
My grandmother was MARY KATHERINE FRENCH, and her father was JOHN JOSEPH
FRENCH
It is generally believed he was a shoemaker in Port Elizabeth. I have very
little information other than the fact that the family came over from
Ireland when my gran was a very little girl, which would be around 1885 or so
Does anyone have any connection or know anything that could connect this,
and give me more information? I live in Canada now and have no living
relatives to contact regarding this.
Mary
