Thanks, Mark
Not much more than I found in "I dream of Komani". There are 21 references
to Ridgway at KAB -- I must make a plan about getting a look-up done, but
he's on my back burner to a certain extent. My great-grandfather's brother
Augustus BRADY & sister Mary married a Ridgway sister & brother in
Queenstown in the early 1880s. If anyone stumbles on these names in their
trees, I'd be grateful for information. Thanks for your help.
Kind regards
Maureen

Hello Maureen,
It's a pleasure for me to be of help to you for a change!
I did find an entry regarding a William Smith RIDGWAY, House of Assembly
member for Queenstown in 1869. It seems he only served for one year.
Unfortunately this book only contains a list of all serving members of the
legislature, the constituency to which they were elected, their period of
service and total years in the House.
It's a small little book about 170 pages long. It gives a brief account of
the Cape Colonial government setup from Van Riebeeck to the establishment of
the Union parliament, this takes up the first 100 pages. The annexures at
the back contain a list of the following:-
A. Cape Commanders and Governors 1652 - 1910
B. Members of the council of Advice 1825 - 1834
C. Members of the Legislative Council 1834 - 1853
D. Members of the Legislative Council 1854 - 1910
E. Members of the House of Assembly 1854 - 1910
F. Executive Councillors under representative government with seats in both
Houses of Parliamant 1854 - 1872
G. Ministers under responsible government 1872 - 1910
The main text does not contain much information on the individual members,
except brief references to it's most outstanding members like Sir
Christoffel Brand, Saul Solomon, Rhodes, Schreiner etc....
I would be more than happy to do look-ups for anyone interested.
Best wishes,
Mark Lingenfelder.
