Hello Lucille

Cape Metropolitan Council in Wale Street, Cape Town, have indexes to every
person buried from these cemeteries as well as more cemeteries and also
those cremated from Maitland.
http://www.cmc.gov.za/pht/cemeteries.htm

The cees (together with Maitland Crematorium) currently operated by the CMC
are reflected in the following table. Figures from November 1999.

They have a huge filing system with thousands of plot cards in wall sized
draws.
Once you have searched through each book and found the names you are looking
for and the plot in which they are buried the book will then tell you whom
the plot belongs to. You will then ask the lady to get the card for you
(don't try and help yourself like me as you might just be thrown out !! - I
was told once that they do not like researcher type people there !!)
These card are fascinating as they will tell you exactly who all is buried
in the grave and how deep each person is buried. I found a tombstone with
only three people inscribed on it and once I found the plot card there were
another 8 (children - who were all still born or who died within day's if
birth)

This would be a fantastic project, yet a mammoth one, to get onto a data
base.
Has anyone got any bright ideas on this one ??
regards
Heather

I need to find graves of relatives in Maitland/Woltemade/Mowbray &
Plumstead.I know their names but not exact dates of death of all. Who would
I contact to ascertain where they are without spending days of traipsing up
and down rows?
